Ray Boltz Shocks Christian Community

This story is from onenewsnow.com from Jim Brown:

There is shock and sadness in the Christian community over word that famed Christian music singer Ray Boltz has publicly announced he’s living a homosexual lifestyle.

“If this is the way God made me, then this is the way I’m going to live…I really feel closer to God because I no longer hate myself.”  Those were the words of Ray Boltz in an interview with the Washington Blade about his decision to engage in homosexuality. Boltz, a father of four who was married for 33 years before officially divorcing his wife this year, is well-known for his widely acclaimed songs “Thank You” and “I Pledge Allegiance to the Lamb.”

The disclosure by Boltz was stunning news to former homosexual Greg Quinlan who is now with the New Jersey Family Policy Council.

“I’m absolutely shocked.  I’ve got some of his CDs and cassette tapes –- tells you how long it’s been around. When he says he’s born that way, we know now for a fact that that’s false. In fact, just last year in March, the director of the Human Genome Project, Dr. Francis Collins, said this: homosexuality is not hardwired. There is no gay gene. We mapped the human genome. We now know there is no genetic cause for homosexuality.”

When asked about Boltz’s homosexuality, The Gospel Music Association — the group which gives out the Dove Awards — told the Blade, “We do not comment on the lifestyle choices of people in our community.”

According to Quinlan, by making such a statement the GMA seems to be “enabling a behavior that is totally inconsistent, incongruent with the message of the gospel.”

  1. Thats incredibly sad news…

  2. Yes….I thought so too.

  3. This is incredibly sad. Let’s keep this brother in prayer, as well as the many others within the gospel music industry that are living this type of lifestyle.

  4. As a Christian who has struggled with faith, honesty, pride, gluttony. anger and so on I now realize that is the way God made me and I will now openly embrace this lifestyle.

  5. Merry Chicago,
As a Christian I struggle with many sins myself. As a matter of fact, as a man, I have often struggled with lust. But that isn’t who I am. I do not want to be unfaithful to my wife, and with the strength of the Holy Spirit in my life He will keep me from those sins (both lust and adultery). God is never glorified in our sin.

Just one last thought from I Cor. 6: 15-20

“Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take Christ’s members and make them the members of a prostitute? Of course not! (Or) do you not know that anyone who joins himself to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For “the two,” it says, “will become one flesh.” But whoever is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him. Avoid immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the immoral person sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been purchased at a price. Therefore, glorify God in your body.”

    Yes, Jerri C.,
We need to pray for him and all brothers and sisters who struggle with this grave, sinful action.

  6. I’m happy he’s been able to accept who he is and feels closer to God as a result of it, and I hope all his fans will see he’s still just the same person. 🙂

  7. Thanks for your comment Lucy. I’m glad you stopped by.

I hope his fans will see he’s the same person, too. Afterall, all that’s changed is that we now “know” what he’d kept secret for so long. And we must show love toward him, the love of God that brings about the fruit of repentance.

God doesn’t stop loving the sinner and neither should we. Neither does God tolerate sinful acts, but is always ready to forgive those who repent.

I’m glad he feels closer to God too. I just think it’s the wrong god he’s gotten closer to. As Sacred Scripture states in I Cor. 6: 9-10:

“Do you not know that the unjust will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators nor idolaters nor adulterers nor boy prostitutes nor sodomites nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor robbers will inherit the kingdom of God.”

We all have our sins to overcome. And overcome them we must to inherit eternal life!

Blessings to you, Lucy and thanks for your input.

  8. I dont care if an angel from heaven comes down and says it’s ok to be gay, I dont believe man, angels, or any other created beings. I believe God. And his word (as well as nature) is 100% CLEAR; Homosexuality is not only a sin, but it is one of the few God himself calls “an abomination”…..
Ray Boltz is lying. To himself and to the world.
Now there will be many in hell saying “Thank you”…….for decieving me……..

  9. Yes it is an abomination and it is sad he is saying God made him this way. We are living in the end times and these types of things are signs of the end times. It is sad that people will accept his sin and Christianity will once again be attacked because of this. He left a wife and they had 4 kids I cannot imagine what they are going through. Please pray for him to get out of this abomination.

  10. I am truly shocked and saddened by this news. I loved listening to Ray Boltz sing especially the one sone Thank You For Giving To The Lord. I will be praying that he sees the wrong and comes back to God.

  11. Donna,
It is a wonderful thing to lift up our prayers for our brother who has lost his way, and ask God to have mercy and change his heart and bring him back home. Can you imagine, the millions of prayers being offered to God on behalf of Ray and his family these last few days?

I hope we pray as hard for the up-coming election.

Thank you, Donna, for sharing your heart.

  12. I was dumbstruck by this news. My wife and I, along with our CMA (Christian Motorcyclists Association) brothers and sisters have seen Ray in concert several times and always met with him after the show. He was a biker and CMA member and CMA’s calling is to minister to those who are most shunned (i.e. bikers, prisoners, prostitutes, etc.). Nearly all CMA members have witnessed miraculous healings of addictions and release from evil spirits. Nothing but prayer on our part and a fresh infusion of the Holy Spirit in his life will correct the course Ray has now set for himself. Unfortunately, we must consider the damage done to his family and to the Christian community by his selfishly giving in to the flesh. Michael Joiner (above) closes his comment with an excellent point.

Tim – you’re dead on about the need for prayer as we near election time.

  13. Thanks for the visit Joe.

Yes, prayer for his family is essential. We must not forget them in their time of need.

    The election, too!

Blessings to you and all the bikers out there!
And may God continue to bless your ministry.

  14. The Devil is working overtime. He knows his time is running out and he is determined to damn as many souls as he can. Ray Boltz has been deceived by him and believes his lies. it is sad …very sad becasue the devil will use him to deceive more souls who struggle with this issue…..and we do need to pray for him. God still loves him. He hates the sin but loves the sinner.

I agree praying for this election needs to be a priority too. America is at a crossroads. Be persistant in your prayers for friends and family who do not accept the message of Jesus.

    God Bless.

  15. Yes Mary, only a little while longer. His time for deception is running out.

    Thanks be to God!

Love covers a multitude of sin. So let’s love and let’s pray. For our brothers and sisters, and this election coming up.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us Mary.
    God bless you.

  16. I’ve bought every single CD Ray Boltz has ever put out & listened very carefully to the words. They’re all very inspiring. We all struggle with sin but we don’t have to cave in to it. Think of the thousands of people who will say to themselves: “it’s okay because Ray is doing it”. What a petrifying place to be. I’ll be praying for Ray to see clearly & recognize that homosexuality is a very grievous sin abhorred by God.

  17. Thank you for sharing your experience, Susan. I think alot of us can identify with you here.

When I returned to the Lord, at the beginning of my marriage (1989) his song “The Altar” spoke to me in a way that no other song ever had, or maybe ever will.

His songs were, as you said, “inspiring.”

And you are right, his acceptance of this lifestyle, could and probably will be a stumbling block for many, who are faced with this temptation.

We certainly need to pray for Ray and his family, no doubt, and let’s also remember those you’ve mentioned here, who could be swayed by his choice.

Thanks again for your input here, and God bless you.

  18. What a shame for Ray to have fallen this way. Yes, let’s all pray for him and exhort him to not live this way. Here’s a brief article I wrote on an imaginary discussion between Ray and Jesus:

  19. I was very shocked to hear of Ray Boltz decision to come out and say that he was gay. I don’t understand
how someone that is so annointed of God and who has felt the Holy Spirit in their life could honestly believe God made him this way. This is just a trick of the enemy. He only comes to kill, to steal, and to destroy your life. And if Ray Boltz doesn’t turn back to God as he should, then the enemy has won. As true
Bible believing christians we need to keep this whole family in our prayers. I read in an interview where he said his family had excepted him. Although they were
upset at first. So their exceptance if his lifestyle is sad. We need to really keep them in our prayers.

  20. Wow, the only sin I see here is that he deceived his family for so long. I feel bad for him that he felt he had to hide his innerself for so long; but I feel worse for his family. But, that’s what you get when you have an unforgiving Christian society that damns you to hell if you don’t follow the book. I’ll pray for those Christians that live thier lives being so judgmental.

  21. Shellie,
You are correct when you talk about the sin of deception. But you are wrong to say that it the only sin. If you don’t see homosexuality as a sin, then I would suggest you study scripture a little deeper, for it indeed is.
You are also correct in your observation of an unforgiving Christian society, and the need for prayer to heal this sin. But it takes more than mere lipservice. We as Christians are called to action within our faith. So we must educate and properly disciple and catechize our society, so that we can be loving of the individuals who struggle with all types of sin, like I do, yet not compromising the word of God, by calling sin, sin, and not tolerating it.
In other words, love the sinner, but hate the sin.

    Thanks for your input here.
    God bless you.
