Love your enemies

You have heard that it was said "You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy." But I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your heavenly Father, for he makes his sun rise on the bad and the good, and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what recompense will you have? Do not the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet your brothers only, what is unusual about that? Do not the pagans do the same? So be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.     Matt. 5:43-48

Love your enemies? Pray for those who persecute you? Why in the world would I want to do that?  That you may be children of your heavenly Father.  Remember the seventh beatitude, "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God?" Remember the study? Shalom (peace) means a sense of wholeness or completeness, we are not whole or complete if we do not do what our Father says. His grace is extended to sinners. Do I offer mine? He forgives. Do I? Is there any family resemblance in our lives? Do we resemble our Father?

We are called to be prefect, as He is perfect. Now this is not in the sense of "mistake-free", but in the sense of maturity. Christ is the mark of maturity and we as his disciples are commanded to grow.

Father, we take this time now, to pray for those who don't like us, and those who are mean and hateful to us. We ask your blessing upon them this day and pray that you give us an opportunity to show them mercy, as you've shown us mercy. I pray that you will bring about the conversion of their souls, and their hearts, and that I may be an instrument in their conversion. I pray that in my life, I show forth Your love and forgiveness through Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen
