Blessed are the merciful…

Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Matt. 5:7

Has God ever cleansed your heart? Then you know what it is like to receive mercy.

Let me ask you another question; Have you ever shown mercy to someone else, even someone who hates or mistreats you? If you answer yes to that question often, then you should have a growing and thriving relationship with God, and to that I say "keep up the good work." If you answered no, let's look at one of the possible reasons why.

Ask yourself, "When has God really been merciful to me?" In the spiritual sense, we should know that salvation through Christ's death, and His resurrection are God's greatest acts of mercy, for everyone and yet for each one.

But, what about the practical, everyday mercies? Well, the most notable may be the one's we take for granted. Food, water, life, health, spouse, parents… get the idea?

As Christians, having mercy for others should be second nature, for it is God's nature. Romans 5:10 states, "Indeed, if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, how much more, once reconciled, will we be saved by His life." And , as we will discuss later. Matt.5:24 tells us to "be reconciled to your brother".

So it all boils down to this. If I don't feel mercy, I won't show mercy. God's mercies are new each day, ours should be, too.
